You know the expression if you always do what you always did, you always get what you always got. When was the last time you drove down a new road and were surprised at the view or ease of traffic? We get so stuck in the sameness of what we do we don’t realize we could be doing it better.

Are you complacent about your company?  It’s moving along fine. Don’t rock the boat!

But is it really fine? Are your employees just doing the basics or are they seeking ways to grow themselves and thereby your business? Do they know why they do what they do in that order?  When was the last time you asked them or looked for better ways to serve your customers?

Imagine looking at your world through the eyes of a child who will ask “why”.  What would you answer?

What would you or could you change to improve deliverables? How do they handle customer issues?  How well do they work together?

A member of our consulting group, Winding Road Development conducts a stay interview where she asks 2 or 3 questions such as what makes you anxious, what would you keep and what would you change.  Imagine how empowered employees would feel participating in that discussion especially seeing their suggestions implemented.

What other patterns can you change to be more effective?

How are both the systems and processes you are using?  Are they as effective?  Do you need to dare I say change something?

Are offices and workstations as effective as they used to be?  It’s amazing what a can of paint can do or even new pictures.

There is a new commercial that uses the map icon and instead of making the turns it gets off the stand and explores new places.  Isn’t it your turn to begin exploring new ideas and getting excited again about your business?
