I just read Seth Godin’s blog http://sethgodin.typepad.com/seths_blog/2011/10/questions-for-a-new-entrepreneur.html and wondered how many people really think about what it takes to be an entrepreneur.

Is it a mindset or can anyone do it?  Yes, it’s a mindset, and no, anyone can’t do it! Ok that being said, what does it take?

It takes a dream or a passion and the desire to make it work no matter what.  Along with that, it takes the time to look for help.  Learning all you can about starting a business creating a plan and learning what to do or not to do.  So many people forget to plan this venture.  There is an old adage, that if you fail to plan you plan to fail and sadly it’s true.  Although I made a plan I wish I had asked for more help and learned more as I went along. Like everyone I made some mistakes; spent too much on things I didn’t need, worked with people who were not on the up and up, and didn’t do some of the things I should have.  I have learned and continue to do so.

Whether you envision being an entrepreneur or already are one, I encourage you to attend events like the chambers to learn what you need to know; to meet with people who are already doing what you aspire to do and yes talk to people like me.  I created my business basic e-book series just for you to help you get started and think about what you need.  It’s under $50 total for all 6 books and 4 more are on the way.

Ask the questions, avoid making the big mistakes.  You will make mistakes there is no doubt we all do but learn from them and decide if you really should be an entrepreneur.
