I was responding to a question on LinkedIn™about what 3 business tips I’d give to a startup and decided to include it here explaining why I chose these 3 words.
- Passion: What is it you love to do that you could do for hours? What makes you feel alive? What do you thoroughly enjoy and want to share with others? For me, it’s being able to provide knowledge tools and insights to others to enable them to achieve their goals and dreams. I love learning and I get to share what I learn and pass it on.
- Plan: Ah the dreaded planning! Plans don’t have to be cumbersome or overly complex; they just have to include key components to enable the business to focus on where it’s going and why it exists. The plan identifies the target market and the competition as well as where it will be in 5 years. It creates the roadmap. A plan is a living document that grows as the business grows. It looks at opportunities, and threats as well as the future organization structure. We know it should be ready aim fire but businesses without plans often do fire aim ready and can’t understand why they are in trouble or not achieving what they desire. Don’t let that happen to you or your business.
- Purpose: Why is the business in business? What problem does the company solve? What is this business offering that others don’t or don’t do as well? In other words why does it exist? If you can’t answer this you better rethink why you are in business.
Looking at these 3 areas can help anyone or any business determine if they should start or continue or if they need to rethink what they are doing before they run into problems.
Wherever you are in the process having a solid foundation is key, that’s why I created the business basic library to help create business plans, set goals, develop a SWOT, focus on hiring, and more.
